Mackintosh and Tucker
Artist Profile
|
A love of nature is at the heart of the beautiful enamelware created by Tara Mackintosh and Cameron Tucker. The couple lives on 54 acres of Pennsylvania farmland surrounded by inspirational views of rolling hills and lush, green woods. They work as a team out of their studio, an old barn which was has been modified for their use.
Cameron Tucker received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from the Cleveland Institute of Art and obtained an MFA in painting from Cranbrook in Broomfield Hills, Michigan. Tara received her BFA in enameling at the Cleveland Institute of Art, and an MFA in metalsmithing at Arizona State University.
Both artists use their skills to produce the enamelware. They use powdered glass and copper forms, which are then heated in a large 1500 degree kiln. Painting and stenciling in layers produces the imagery. For the couple, enamel is enjoyable to work with because it offers a sense of freedom in the application and design decisions, yet is timeless in its resilience and durability.
